Certain characters have certain actions and phrases only they can use. Doing so will add a award to the end of game tally. From now on, the phone will help change character to character be it playing as Nancy, Ned, Bess or George. Nancy needs that note she had that led her to the Town Hall in the first place! Also: Calling 911 is also advised, if not now then any point in the game will do.

You COULD play them order to get a full appreciation at how the games changed over time, but if you want to really start off on the best foot, I'd recommend something like "9 - Danger on Deception Island" "10 - Secret of Shadow Ranch" or "23 - Shadow at the Water's Edge".Make one to Carson Drew (Nancy's Father) and then call Ned, Bess or George (It doesnt matter which) but for speed's sake in this section, call Bess as shes the closest to Town Hall. Secrets Can Kill also has a remastered version. "1 - Secrets Can Kill" and "2 - Stay Tuned For Danger" can be difficult to get working on old computers (not impossible because 2 was the fourth game I played). I'd also avoid "33 - Midnight In Salem" because its so different to other games. The only ones I do not recommend to play first are "20 - Ransom of the Seven Ships", "25 - Alibi In Ashes" "29 - The Silent Spy" and "30 - The Shattered Medallion" as I think they require appreciation of other games first.

There's no order really to play, because the games are pretty solid at keeping themselves spoiler-free from each other. My view is there's a Nancy Drew game for everyone, so tell us your interests and we can probably recommend one. After that I played them randomly based on what sounded interesting to me. I started with "Danger on Deception Island" which I absolutely fell in love with. I basically told my friends to pick titles that sounded interesting and I played those ones first. I got into the games about two years ago. Have fun!! This sub is the nicest one on Reddit ever, don't hesitate to post if you have problems with anything. The older games are definitely pretty clunky, but hang in there, as the games move forward the interface keeps improving. If you don't want to take the risk, then I'd start at #3, Message in a Haunted Mansion. This can also be a little difficult to get working - you can only buy it from HeR's website and they do have instructions on getting it working, but a lot of people still struggle with it. So I would personally recommend starting at #2, Stay Tuned for Danger, and go forward from there. If you play it as your first you might not want to continue. I bought a lot off eBay with the first 20 or so games, which is the only reason I have it.

But the original Secrets Can Kill can be really hard to get working on modern computers (of three computers I have I could only get it running on one, and I work in tech support for a living, so I'm pretty good with that stuff). Secrets Can Kill Remastered actually contains a TON of Easter eggs from the earlier games, so you miss a lot if you play that as your very first game. There are a few enjoyable things about it but you're not missing much if you end up not playing it. (Note that this game has been discontinued by HeR so you won't be able to buy it through the usual routes.) This is also widely viewed to be one of the worst games too. I can't say which one since I don't want to spoil the surprise, but if you don't play that particular game then a big plot twist will be somewhat confusing. There is a very big reference to an earlier game in Ransom of the Seven Ships. Play The Shattered Medallion AFTER Tomb of the Lost Queen (this is widely viewed as one of the worst games so I'd save it towards the end anyway, though personally I enjoyed it) The are also a few characters that appear in subsequent games, so in the third game I played, one of the phone friends was a character from a past game and I was confused by what was going on there.įor the most part though it doesn't hurt to play them out of order since very few plot threads carry forward. I ended up wishing I hadn't because there are fun little references to other games that go over your head.

I'm new to the games too (started them last year with unexpected covid free time) and played them somewhat out of order.
